Verified Customer Reviews for Oxford Monster XL Chain
I use this to chain up my bike after my commute into London and the bike has been in the same place I left it every single time so this big imposing lock and chain really does its job.
Excellent chain very secure for the bike at home in conjunction with a ground anchor would have given it 5 stars but to heavy to take out and about with you when on travels
I bought this chain because it is the largest of it's kind that will fit in my ground anchor.
The chain itself is hefty, feels solid and hopefully a suitable deterrent to would-be thieves.
The protective cover is a little flimsy and mine has a few tears after a week or so but this is purely cosmetic.
The padlock is also suitably weighty, but the plastic cover surrounding it just feels flimsy. It is a bit fiddly as well - you have to make sure that the pins are aligned just right before it will click and allow you to turn the key.
I get the feeling I've paid for the chain, not the other components.
I already had a decent JCB 'Like A Rock' chain that I use for my top spec bicycles, but I thought I'd better invest in the best (thickest) chain out there for my new bike. I know that pretty much any chain can be cut with the right tools, so it's just a matter of buying the best you can afford. This is a very good quality chain, but actually surprisingly quite light compared to my steel 9.5mm JCB. The only thing that lets it down is the padlock itself. The protective casing is comprised of very thin/weak plastic that I'm assuming will break very easily and the locking mechanism isn't smooth at all. In fact you have to wiggle the key and move the shackle in and out till it engages correctly. Certainly not worth the asking price even with a 10% discount.
